Sunday is for Chocolate

Posted by Kat in Batten, House

Today is Sunday and I just pulled the emergency chocolate handle and my wonderful husband ran to the store for some chocolate. We had some girls spend the night and took them back a little before lunch then we went to my parents place for dinner. We have so much to do on the house before the winter comes, I’m tired from getting up early to do a charity walk and broken hearted watching Rachel struggle. Today has been a harder than normal day for her.

If you pull the emergency chocolate handle in our house you get a bar of chocolate. I am pretty sure there is an emergency nap handle but I’m one of those people who wake up insufferably grouchy if allowed to nap.

Registered a new domain for Rachel today and our future fundraising efforts and am so excited about that! I’ll post more when I’ve got something tangible to show.

Busy weekend

Posted by Kat in House, Kat, Life

Tomorrow we are taking down the walls in our living room and up to the stairway of the second floor.  I’m not really looking forward to it because I cannot stand the feeling of plaster dust on my hands and feet but we have to get it done.  The winter is around the corner and having another cold season with old, leaky windows and no insolation isn’t exactly the way to fight the rising cost of heating fuel.

We have a small group of teenagers that are expected at 8am so I need to get some cash, soda and pizza organized.  :)   I’ll take some pictures.

Today the kiddos and I are at home until mid afternoon when John comes home.  We bought another air conditioner for one of the kids rooms which John will install tonight.  I think the boys and girls might share a room tonight just for fun and if the sleeping improves with the new unit I might get a second one for the  boys room.  We have five bedrooms but the kids, for whatever reason, prefer to sleep together (R & J in one room and L & B in the other room).  Our 3 small units seems to perfectly fit the first floor and it is pretty comfortable in here.  It has been in the 90′s for the last couple of days so I haven’t been out on my bike but I am hoping it will happen tonight.  Maybe I’ll ride to get the food supplies for tomorrow and ride the “eats” home in the bike trailer.  I know it sounds boring but I love my bike time (with or without kiddos).

Dining Room

Posted by Kat in House

Ok. Rather than trying to kill ourselves to knock down these walls, insulate, etc, before the end of the year… I think we are going to patch what needs patching, sand what needs sanding and PAINT.

So I ask you, what color should this go? The room doesn’t get a whole lot of light and the carpet is crimson, navy with a little bit of olive / marine green.

About Me

TeamRachel aka mrskatvon is both a website to gain public awareness of Juvenile Batten Disease (which affects my oldest daughter) as well as a journal to remember the events in our lives. Rachel was diagnosed with Batten Disease in July 2009 and while we knew something was "not right" we had no idea that such a nightmarish disease existed. There are dozens of nasty, orphan disease which affect people both very young and old. Aside from dealing with the changes of Batten Disease in my daughter, Rachel, I have tasked myself with making life memorable for all of my children to make sure that (at least) 3 of them grow up to be as well adjusted and happy as possible.
